Whitestown Ice Unavailable - Septemeber 3 thru
6
There is NO ICE at
Whitestown over the Labor Day holiday (September 3rd through the 6th).
The rink will be repainting lines during this time. We will skate on
September 2nd (Thursday), and will resume our summer ice package on
September 7th (Tuesday).
2010-2011 Season Registration now Available!!
As a club we have worked hard to best serve the needs of our
membership. This coming season we face some large increases in
ice costs, and we have worked hard to minimize the impact of these
greatly increased costs on our membership. We now have our
2010-2011 schedules and ice packages available. You can download
a PDF version of our flyer for both Basic Skills and Freestyle skating
below. You can register at the New Hartford Rec Center on September 12th or 13th, from 5pm to 7pm.
Freestyle skaters can register anytime we have ice this summer, just
talk to the ice monitor during our summer session.
If you have questions, please feel free to ask us. Also
remember to keep an eye on our SCNH
Twitter feed for the latest news.
2010 Registration Answers to Common Questions
Is this more expensive than last
year? Yes it is. Our ice rates have increased
dramatically this year. Our Board struggled with the best way to
hold down costs, while still providing the ice time and benefits that
make our club special. Our club still provides great value for
our members, along with additional services not offered elsewhere.
What is the Volunteer Fee?
Freestyle skaters will now pay a volunteer fee at the beginning of the
season. By volunteering for club approved activities the family
of the skater will qualify to have this fee refunded at the end of the
season. If we don't get enough volunteers, we will use these fees
to hire local students to perform these activities for the club.
What is the Administrative Fee?
This fee covers mailing expenses, USFS insurance coverage, costumes,
and some of the other administrative costs that the club has.
What happened to Saturday ice in
Whitestown? Basic Skills will keep their Saturday practice
ice in Whitestown this year, so they can practice their skills on their
own. Freestyle ice in Whitestown will also be provided by the
club for the first half of the season (through the first of the
year). At that point the club will assess the usage of the ice,
and decide if it makes sense to continue to buy this ice for the
Freestyle skaters.
Will Team Skills continue to be
offered? Yes, if we have enough demand for this. If you
are interested in the Team Skills program, please let us know at
registration.
If you have any questions, feel fee to drop by and talk to us at registration.
Keep watching us for fun on the ice....
Our early schedule begins in new Hatford on Septemebr 19th. Ice times during these first two weeks may be different than our regular schedule, so please make sure you know the times you will be skating. We start skating our regular schedule this Sunday, October 3rd, in New Hartford. All weekday ice times are for the New Hartford Rec Center, Saturday ice times are in Whitestown.
You can now follow current club plans, events and updates on our new SCNH Twitter feed, and be sure to come out and pay us a visit on Facebook. Make sure that you stay in touch with all of our current events, as well as the planning for our Annual competition.
Skaters, help make the club even better by helping out with our new Junior Board.
SCNH on the Web
Be sure to look for SCNH out on Facebook.
Become a fan of the club, and feel free to join up. We also have our
own SCNH
Twitter feed for the latest news and info on the
club. Become a follower of the club and get updates on changing ice
times, competition updates, and more!
Don't have a computer, but still want updates from our SCNH Twitter feed? Just text "follow SCNH" to 40404, and you will receive text messages of important club news, all from the SCNH Twitter feed. Standard text messaging rates apply.
Our very own Suzie Flynn has her story, Solo Dance Rocks Nationals, published on the front page of the September 2009 USFS Adult Skating Newsletter. She describes her experience at US Adult Nationals.
Go check out the SCNH Wiki Site, and add your own observations, comments, pictures, or stories. Share your love for the sport with your fellow skaters.
Joint Members and Visiting Skaters
Joint memberships to the SCNH are available to all members of
the USFS.
Fees are based on the amount of ice needed. For details about joint
membership,
just drop us
an email, call us at 315-734-5656, or check our brochure.
We welcome visiting professionals, and skaters from other clubs.
Visiting
coaches will need to pay a $5 fee for using our ice, unless they are
coaching
club members, in which case the fee will be waived. All
coaches must have valid insurance and must sign our code of
conduct before skating on our ice.
During the regular season ice schedule, visiting skaters can drop in on
our ice for $4 for a half hour, or $8 per hour, if there are open slots
for the session. Punch cards can be purchased as well, for those
skaters
that frequently "drop in".
Links to other skating sites and other information
There are a number of different places on the web where you can find information about general figure skating topics. Some of our favorites are:
- The official website for US Figure
Skating. - icenetwork.com currently contains a lot of free resources, as well as a "Season Pass", gaining access to more than a 1,000 hours of live and on-demand video of figure skating.
- Rink Diagram - A blank rink diagram that you can print out. Use it for mapping out your program.
- Collegiate Fact Sheet - A fact sheet from USFS on the options available to college age skaters, who wish to continue skating throughout their college years.
- Skating Club of Utica - One of the other local skating clubs. We have a special arrangement for the skaters of both clubs to utilize additional ice at a reduced rate from the other club.
